On Cloud Nine: Massachusetts Quilt Block

Massachusetts Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Turquoise: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This will be the upper right-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • Turquoise:  Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. You only need THREE (3) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block.)
  • Turquoise: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This will be the lower left-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • White:  Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Turquoise 4 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. You only need THREE (3) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Turquoise 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Green: Cut EIGHT (8) 1 7/8″ squares. (These will flank the Green 1 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut EIGHT (8) 1 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ squares. (These will be flanked by the Green 1 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Green 1 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank ONE (1) side of FOUR (4) Green 1 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 9 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Green 1 7/8″ squares & the White 1 7/8″ squares, as well as the Green 1 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ squares. As needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Mint Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ strips. (These will be the center of the plants (so to speak), and will be flanked by the results of the White 3 7/8″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Mint Green: Cut SIX (6) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank the Mint Green 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ strips these directions & bottom & sides of this quilt block. If you don’t understand these instructions, please contact me for additional info.)
  • Teal: Cut TWELVE (12) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 1 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FIVE (5) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Teal 1 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut SIX (6) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Mint Green
    2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ strips as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Brown: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These will flank the results of the White
    4 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Brown: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These will flank the results of the Brown 4 1/2″ square as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Brown: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/2″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the White  4 1/2″ squares, which will create TWO (2) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/2″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Brown  4 1/2″ squares, which will create TWO (2) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 6 7/8″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the results of the Brown

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ strips. (These will flank on all FOUR (4) sides, the White 4 1/2″ square, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Gray: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 5 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This will be flanked on all FOUR (4) sides, by the Green 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ strips. It will also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 4 1/2″ squares. (These will be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will be flanked by the results of the Gray 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
