On Cloud Nine: Tomahawk Quilt Block

Tomahawk Quilt Block Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Tomahawk Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Aquamarine: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. You only need THREE (3) of these triangles to make this quilt block. (These will flank the White 1 7/8″ x 4 3/4″ rectangles as  needed for this quilt block.)
  • Teal: Cut SIX (6) 1 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Teal 1 7/8″ x 4 3/4″ rectangles, which will create SIX (6) Snowball Corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Teal: Cut THREE (3) 1 7/8″ x 4 3/4″ rectangles. (These will flank the White 1 7/8″ x 4 3/4″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Teal: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the White 1 7/8″ x
    4 3/4″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut THREE (3) 4 1/2″ squares. (ONE (1) of these will be the upper right-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut SIX (6) 1 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the White 1 7/8″ x 4 3/4″ rectangles, which will  create SIX (6) Snowball Corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut THREE (3) 1 7/8″ x 4 3/4″ rectangles. (ONE (1) of these will be flanked by the White 1 7/8″ squares. The remaining TWO (2) will be flanked by the Aquamarine 3 7/8″ squares & the Teal 3 7/8″ squares. ONE (1) of these will be the upper left-hand corner of this quilt block. And another ONE (1) will be the lower right-hand corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut THREE (3) 4 1/2″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. You only need FIVE (5) of these triangles to make this quilt block. (These will flank the White 1 7/8″ x 4 3/4″ rectangles, or the Teal 1 3/4″ x 4 1/4″ rectangles, as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Purple: Cut EIGHT (8) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the White 2″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut ONE (1) 4 3/4″ square. (This are flanked by the results of the White 3 7/8″ squares. Which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. It’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWELVE (12) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the Purple 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Purple 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Purple 4 3/4″ square. Which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. They’ll also help create center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Purple 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Pink: Cut EIGHT (8) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 1 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Four-Patch portions. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut EIGHT (8) 3 1/2″ squares. On the back side the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the White 3 1/8″ x 7 7/8″ rectangles, which will create EIGHT (8) Snowball corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut TWO (2) 1 7/8″ x 4″ rectangles. (These will ‘frame’ the left & right sides of the White
    4 1/2″ square which will help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut TWO (2) 1 7/8″ x 7″ rectangles. (These will ‘frame’ the top & bottom of the White 4 1/2″ center square which will help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Pink 1 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Four-Patch portions. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/8″ x 7 7/8″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Pink 3 1/2″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Snowball corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This will be flanked by the Pink 1 7/8″ x 4″ rectangles & the Pink 1 7/8″ x 7″ rectangles. It’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Pale Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with a total of EIGHT (8) triangles. (These triangles will flank the results of the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut EIGHT (8) 1 1/2″ squares. (These will be paired with the Brown 1 1/2″ squares & will help create the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired between between the Brown
    1 1/2″ squares and the Blue 1 1/2″ squares. Which will help create the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 4″ squares. (These are paired with the Brown 1 7/8″ x 4″ rectangles & the Brown 1 7/8″ x 9″ rectangles. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Brown: Cut SIXTEEN (16) 1 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Blue 1 1/2″ squares & will help create the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Brown: Cut TWO (2) 1 7/8″ x 4″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Blue 4″ squares & will help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Brown: Cut ONE (1) 1 7/8″ x 9″ strip. (This are paired with the Blue 4″ squares & will help create the center of this quilt block.)

  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These will flank the Blue 4 1/2″ square as needed for this quilt block.)
