Valentine’s Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Pink: Cut TWO (2) 4 3/4″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4 3/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They will also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- Pink: Cut ONE (1) 4 3/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles. (These triangles are paired with the results of the Dk. Pink 4 3/4″ square which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. Once it is sewn together it will be the center of this quilt block. Then it will be flanked by the results of the White 4 3/4″ squares which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
- Magenta: Cut ONE (1) 4 3/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles. (These triangles are paired with the results of the Pink 4 3/4″ square which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. Once it is sewn together it will be the center of this quilt block. Then it will be flanked by the results of the White 4 3/4″ squares which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
- Magenta: Cut ONE (1) 8 3/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the White 4 3/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 4 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the Pink 4 3/4″ squares which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. It will be the center of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 4 3/4″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Pink 4 3/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They will also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 4 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the Pink/Magenta Quarter-Square Triangle in the center of this quilt block. Which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 4 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the Magenta 8 3/8″ square. Which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)

Sew TWELVE (12) “Valentine’s Quilt Blocks” to end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished & 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.
