Flying Windmill Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Gray: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are paired with the results of the Lt. Blue 5 1/4″ squares. They’re also paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ square. When sewn all together they’ll create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles as needed to sew this block together.)
- Lt. Blue: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the results of the Gray 5 1/4″ square. They’re also paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ square. When sewn all together they’ll create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles as needed to sew this block together.)
- Turquoise: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- Turquoise: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the Turquoise 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are paired with the results of the Lt. Blue 5 1/4″ squares. They’re also paired with the results of the Turquoise 5 1/4″ square. When sewn all together they’ll create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles as needed to sew this block together.)
