Checkered Star Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Lt. Blue: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Blue 2 1/2″ squares & they’re also paired with the White 2 1/2″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Four Patches. All together they’re the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)
- Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Lt. Blue 2 1/2″ squares & they’re also paired with the White 2 1/2″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Four Patches. All together they’re the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)
- Blue: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the White 3 3/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Square in a Squares, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Lt. Blue 2 1/2″ squares & they’re also paired with the Blue 2 1/2″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Four Patches. All together they’re the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/8″ squares. (These are flanked by the results of the Blue 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Square in a Squares, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)

Sew TWELVE (12) “Checkered Star Quilt Blocks” to end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished & 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.

- Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Lt. Blue 2 1/2″ squares & they’re also paired with the White 2 1/2″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Four Patches. All together they’re the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)
- Purple: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the White 3 3/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Square in a Squares, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- Purple: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed to sew it together.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Lilac 2 1/2″ squares & they’re also paired with the Purple 2 1/2″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Four Patches. All together they’re the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the Purple 3 3/8″ square in the center of this quilt block. They’ll create ONE (1) Square in a Square as needed to sew it together.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/8″ squares. (These are flanked by the results of the Blue 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Square in a Squares, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
