Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Bright Pink: Cut TWO (2) 4 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are flanked by the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- Bright Pink: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the Yellow 4 1/2″ square in the center of this quilt block. They’ll create ONE (1) Square in a Square as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the Bright Pink 5 1/4″ square, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. They’re paired with the Yellow/White Half-Square Triangles as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Yellow 2 7/8″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the Bright Pink 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the Bright Pink 5 1/4″ square, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)

If you sew TWELVE (12) “Union Square Quilt Blocks” you’ll end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished & 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.
