Poinsettia Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Pink: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Red 2 1/2″ squares & they’re also paired with the results of the Red 2 7/8″ squares. All together they’ll create the center of this quilt block.)
- Red: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. These are paired with the results of the Red 2 7/8″ squares & they’re also paired with the results of the Pink 4 7/8″ squares. All together they’ll create the center of this quilt block.)
- Red: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Red 2 1/2″ squares & they’re also paired with the results of the Pink 4 7/8″ squares. Together they’ll create the center of this quilt block.)
- Red: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank ONE (1) side of the results of the White 5 1/4″ square, which will create one-half of a Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Rust: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Rust: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank ONE (1) side of the results of the White 5 1/4″ square, which will create one-half of a Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Rust: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Red 2 1/2″ squares & they’re also paired with the results of the Pink 4 7/8″ squares. Together they’ll help create the center of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Rust 2 7/8″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked on ONE (1) side by the results of the Red 2 7/8″ square & they’re flanked on ONE (1) other side by the results of the Rust
2 7/8″ squares. Together they’ll create FOUR (4) Flying Geese as needed for this quilt block.)

If you make TWELVE (12) “Poinsettia Quilt Blocks,” you’ll end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished, 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.
