Salem Star Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Ash Green: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/8″ squares. (These are flanked by the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Square in a Squares. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- Ash Green: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the White
2 7/8″ squares which will create ONE (1) Square in Square. It’ll also be the center of this quilt block.) - Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the White 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Green: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the Mint Green 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Mint Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Green 5 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the Ash Green 2 7/8″ squares, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
- White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Ash Green
3 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Square in a Squares. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.) - White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the results of the Green 5 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)

- Purple: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Violet 5 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Violet: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 2 1/2″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
- Violet: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the White 2 1/2″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
- Violet: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the Lilac 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 2 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the Violet 3 1/4″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
- White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Purple 3 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Square in a Squares. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the Violet 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
