Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Steel Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 9 1/4″ square, which will help create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Lt. Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. They’re flanked by the results of the Lt. Blue 2 7/8″ squares.)
- Lt. Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 9 1/4″ square, which will help create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the Steel Blue 2 7/8″ squares.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are flanked by the results of the Lt. Blue 2 7/8″ squares & they’re also flanked by the results of the Steel Blue 2 7/8″ squares. As needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 9 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (This is flanked by the results of the Steel Blue 2 7/8″ squares & it’s also flanked by the results of the Lt. Blue 2 7/8″ squares. They’ll create FOUR (4) Flying Geese as needed for this quilt block.)

If you make TWELVE (12) “Starry Quilt Blocks,” you’ll end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished, 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.
Starry Variation Quilt Block

- Lilac: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. They’re flanked by the results of the Lilac 2 7/8″ squares.)
- Lilac: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 1/2″ squares which will create ONE (1) Four-Patch square. They also help create the center of this quilt block.)
- Lilac: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are flanked by the Lilac 2 1/2″ squares on TWO (2) sides & they’ll be flanked by the White 2 1/2″ squares on TWO (2) other sides.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are flanked on TWO (2) sides by the results of the Lilac 2 7/8″ squares & they’re flanked on the remaining TWO (2) sides by the results of the Purple 2 7/8″ squares. As needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Lilac 2 1/2″ squares which will create ONE (1) Four-Patch square. They also help create the center of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 9 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the Purple
2 7/8″ squares & they’re also flanked by the results of the Lilac 2 7/8″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese as needed for this quilt block.)
