Georgetown Star Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
- Yellow: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of White 4 1/4″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
- Green: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/4″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the results of the White 3 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
- Purple: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 1/2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Purple: Cut ONE (1) 4 3/4″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the White 3 7/8″ squares, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/2″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Purple 3 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Green 4 1/4″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the the results of the Purple 4 3/4″ squares which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)

If you make TWELVE (12) “Georgetown Star Quilt Blocks,” you will end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished, 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.
Georgetown Star Variation Quilt Block

- Light Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
- Light Blue: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Pink 4 1/4″ squares, as well as the results of the White 3 1/2″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Peach: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the White 3 1/2″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
- Peach: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 1/2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Pink: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired the results of the White 4 1/4″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
- Pink: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the the results of the Peach 4 1/4″ squares, which will create the ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ square. (This will be the center of this quilt block. It’ll be flanked by the results of the Peach 4 1/4″ square, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/2″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Peach 3 1/2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
