Hopscotch Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the ONE (1) side of the results of the Purple 5 1/4″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Yellow: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the results of the Pink 2 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- Yellow: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 2 1/2″ squares. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
- Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank ONE (1) side of the results of the Purple 5 1/4″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Pink: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Yellow 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- Pink: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 2 1/2″ squares. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
- Purple: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4 1/2″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll be the center of this quilt block.)
- Purple: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (TWO (2) of these will be flanked by the results of the Yellow 2 7/8″ squares. TWO (2) more will be flanked by the results of the Pink 2 7/8″ squares. All of these are needed for this quilt block.
- Purple: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will be flanked on ONE (1) side by the results of the Yellow 2 7/8″ squares & on ONE (1) other side by the Pink 2 7/8″ squares. All of these are needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of the center square.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the Purple 4 1/2″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll be the center of this quilt block.)

If you make TWELVE (12) “Hopscotch Quilt Blocks,” you’ll end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished, 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.
