Japanese Lantern Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Maroon: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the White 2 1/2″ squares. And together with them they’re the top & bottom rows of this quilt block.)
- Purple: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Purple 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Purple: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of each of these squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Purple 2 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ rectangles, which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Lavender: TWO (2) 2 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Lavender 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Lavender: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of each of these squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Lavender 2 1/2″ x
8 1/2″ rectangles, which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners, as needed for this quilt block.) - White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. They’re paired with the Maroon 2 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Purple 2 7/8″ squares, as well as the Lavender 2 7/8″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
