Star Power: Maltese Star Quilt Block & Maltese Star Variation Quilt Block

Maltese Star Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

Green: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Lt. Green 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
Lt. Green: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Green 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
Lt. Green: Cut FIVE (5) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank the White
2 1/2″ squares which will create FIVE (5) Square in a Squares. FOUR (4) of these Square in a Squares are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. The remaining ONE (1) of these Square in a Squares is the center of this quilt block.)
White: Cut FIVE (5) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are flanked by the results of the Lt. Green 3 1/4″ squares which will create FIVE (5) Square in a Squares. FOUR (4) of these Square in a Squares are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. The remaining ONE (1) of these Square in a Squares is the center of this quilt block.)
White: Cut TEN (10) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Lt. Green 3 1/4″ squares which will create FIVE (5) additional Square in a Squares. FOUR (4) of these Square in a Squares are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. The remaining ONE (1) of these Square in a Squares is the center of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

Bright Pink: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Lt. Pink 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
Lt. Pink: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Bright Pink 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
Pink: Cut FIVE (5) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are flanked by the results of the White 1 7/8″ squares which will create FIVE (5) Square in a Squares. FOUR (4) of these Square in a Squares are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. The remaining ONE (1) of these Square in a Squares is the center of this quilt block.)
Pink: Cut FIVE (5) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 1 7/8″ squares which will create FIVE (5) Square in a Squares. FOUR (4) of these Square in a Squares are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. The remaining ONE (1) of these Square in a Squares is the center of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

Lt. Blue: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 4 1/2″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Snowball Corners, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 4 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Lt. Blue 2 7/8″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Snowball Corners, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
Dk. Blue: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares, then they’re paired with the White 3 3/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Square in a Squares. They’ll also create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)
White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Dk. Blue 2 7/8″ squares, then they’re paired with the White 3 3/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Square in a Squares. They’ll also create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block as needed to sew it together)
White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/8″ squares. (These are paired on TWO (2) sides by the Dk. Blue
2 7/8″ squares. Then they’re paired on the other TWO (2) sides by the White 2 7/8″ squares. All together they’ll create FOUR (4) Square in a Squares. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block when sewn together.)
White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)

Brown: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Maroon 2 1/2″ squares which will create ONE (1) Four-Patch. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block when they’re sewn together.)
Brown: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the White
2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
Maroon: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Brown 2 1/2″ squares which will create ONE (1) Four-Patch. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block when they’re sewn together.)
Maroon: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block when it’s sewn together.)
White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Brown 5 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)

Lilac: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank ONE (1) side, of the Lilac/Purple Half-Square Triangles, in the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block when sewn together.)
