Star Power: Rhode Island Star Quilt Block & Rhode Island Star Variation Quilt Block

Rhode Island Star Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Rhode Island Star Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 4 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Magenta: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares as needed to sew the center of this quilt block together.)
  • Magenta: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are flanked by the the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed to sew the center of this quilt block together.)
  • Magenta: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the Magenta 3 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed to sew the center of this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the results of the Magenta 5 1/4″ square as needed to sew this quilt block together.)

Sew TWELVE (12) “Rhode Island Star Quilt Blocks” to end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished & 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Lilac: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are flanked by the the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed to sew the center of this quilt block together.)
  • Purple: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are paired with the results of the White
    5 1/4″ squares as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the Magenta 3 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed to sew the center of this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Lilac 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the results of the Purple 5 1/4″ square as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
