Lost Boats Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Lost Boats Quilt Block 

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Red: Cut TWELVE (12) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 3/8″ squares which will create TWENTY-FOUR (24) Half-Square Triangles. FOUR (4) of these Half-Square Triangles are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block when the quilt block is sewn together.)
  • Red: Cut TWO (2) 5 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 5 2/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed when this quilt block is sewn together.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the Red/White small Half-Square Triangles.)
  • White: Cut TWELVE (12) 2 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Red 2 3/8″ squares which will create TWENTY-FOUR (24) Half-Square Triangles. FOUR (4) of these Half-Square Triangles are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block when the quilt block is sewn together.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Red 5 2/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed when this quilt block is sewn together.)

South Dakota Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the small Green/White Half-Square Triangles & will help create the Nine-Patch in the center of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut SIX (6) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Nine-Patch in the center of this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut TEN (10) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 3/8″ squares which will create TWENTY (20) Half-Square Triangles. After they’re sewn together they’ll be paired with the Blue 3 3/8″ squares, which will help create the Nine-Patch, in the center of this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Green/White Half-Square Triangles in the corner of this quilt block. They’re also paired with the results of the Blue 2 7/8″ squares as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Green 2 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TEN (10) 2 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Green 2 3/8″ squares which will create TWENTY (20) Half-Square Triangles. After they’re sewn together they’ll be paired with the Blue 3 3/8″ squares, which will help create the Nine-Patch, in the center of this quilt block.)

Spaghetti Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ rectangles. (These are paired with the White 3 1/2″ squares as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Yellow: Cut TWO (2) 1 7/8″ x 7 5/8″ rectangles. (These are paired with the White 3 1/2″ squares. They’re also paired with the Orange 1 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ rectangles. All are needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Red: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Orange 1 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ rectangles & they’ll create TWO (2) Snowball Corners. They’re also paired with the Orange 1 7/8″ x 16″ rectangle & they’ll create TWO (2) more Snowball Corners. All are needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Red: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8 x 3 3/8″ rectangles. (TWO (2) of these rectangles are paired with the White 3 1/2″ squares. The remaining TWO (2) of these triangles are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ square. All are needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Red: Cut ONE (1) 1 7/8″ x 16″ rectangle. (This is paired with the Orange 1 7/8″ squares which will create TWO (2) Snowball Corners. It’s also paired with the White 3 1/2″ squares. In addition it’s paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ square. All are needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Yellow 1 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ rectangles. They’re also paired with the Red 1 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ rectangles. In addition they’re paired with the Red 1 7/8″ x 16″ rectangle. All are needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. These will flank TWO (2) ends of the Yellow
    1 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ rectangles as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the Yellow 1 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ rectangles. They’re also paired with the Red 1 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ rectangles. In addition they’re paired with the Red 1 7/8″ x 16″ rectangle. All are needed to sew this quilt block together.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Lt. Gold: Cut TWO (2) 7 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are flanked by the results of the Gold 2″ squares. They’re also flanked by the results of the White 4 1/4″ squares. All are needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Gold: Cut SIXTEEN (16) 2″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Gold 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles, which will create SIXTEEN (16) Snowball Corners, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Gold: Cut EIGHT (8) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Gold 2″ squares, which will create SIXTEEN (16) Snowball Corners, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Gold 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. Then they’ll flank the results of the Lt. Gold 7 1/4″ squares. All are needed to sew this quilt block together.)
