South Dakota Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the small Green/White Half-Square Triangles & will help create the Nine-Patch in the center of this quilt block.)
- Blue: Cut SIX (6) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Nine-Patch in the center of this quilt block.)
- Green: Cut TEN (10) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 3/8″ squares which will create TWENTY (20) Half-Square Triangles. After they’re sewn together they’ll be paired with the Blue 3 3/8″ squares, which will help create the Nine-Patch, in the center of this quilt block.)
- Green: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Green/White Half-Square Triangles in the corner of this quilt block. They’re also paired with the results of the Blue 2 7/8″ squares as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Green 2 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TEN (10) 2 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Green 2 3/8″ squares which will create TWENTY (20) Half-Square Triangles. After they’re sewn together they’ll be paired with the Blue 3 3/8″ squares, which will help create the Nine-Patch, in the center of this quilt block.)
