Swans a Swimming Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create SIXTEEN (16) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Pink 2 7/8″ squares, which will create SIXTEEN (16) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Half-Square Triangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 4 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Mint Green: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8 squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Half-Square Triangles in the center of this quilt block which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • Mint Green: Cut TWO (2) 5 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the White 5 3/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 1/2″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. All together they’ll be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut SIX (6) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 3/8 squares which will create SIXTEEN (16) Half-Square Triangles. FOUR (4) of these Half-Square Triangles will be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Mint Green 5 3/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Green 2 1/2″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. All together they’ll be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut SIX (6) 2 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Green 2 3/8 squares which will create SIXTEEN (16) Half-Square Triangles. FOUR (4) of these Half-Square Triangles will be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Rust: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • Gold: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are the centers that are surrounded by the Half-Square Triangles as needed for this quilt block)
  • Gold: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create SIXTEEN (16) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Gold 2 7/8″ squares, which will create SIXTEEN (16) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 2 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These will flank the Rust 3 3/8″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Half-Square Triangles as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Rust: Cut ONE (1) 2 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
  • Rust: Cut TWO (2) 3″ squares. (These are the lower left-hand & the upper right-hand corners of this quilt block. They’re flanked by the results of the White 3 3/8″ squares.)
  • Rust: Cut ONE (1) 5 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These will be flanked by the results of the White
    3 2/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Rust: Cut EIGHT (8) 1 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These will flank ONE (1) end of the Rust 1 7/8″ x 2 5/8″ rectangles which will create EIGHT (8) Snowball Corners. TWO (2) of these Snowball Corners will be the upper left-hand & the lower right-hand corners of this quilt block.)
  • Rust: Cut EIGHT (8) 1 7/8″ x 2 5/8″ rectangles. (These are flanked by the Rust 1 7/8″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Snowball Corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are flanked by the Rust 1 7/8″ x 2 5/8″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Rust 2 1/2″ square & they’ll also flank the Rust 5 7/8″ square. All are needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Rust 1 7/8″ x 2 5/8″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ rectangles. (These are the horizontal & the vertical centers of this quilt block.)

  • Teal: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 1/2″ squares which will create ONE (1) Four-Patch. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Teal: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Four-Patch that’s in the center of this quilt block.)
  • Teal: Cut ONE (1) 6 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (ONE (1) of these is the upper left-hand corner of this quilt block. The other ONE (1) is the lower right-hand corner of this quilt block. They”ll also flank the results of the White 6 7/8″ square.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Teal 3 1/2″ squares which will create ONE (1) Four-Patch. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Four-Patch that’s in the center of this quilt block. They”ll also flank the results of the Teal 6 7/8″ square.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 6 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (ONE (1) of these is the upper right-hand corner of this quilt block. The other ONE (1) is the lower left-hand corner of this quilt block
