Prism Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Prism Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Lilac: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank ONE (1) side, of the Lilac/Purple Half-Square Triangles, in the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block when sewn together.)
  • Lilac: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Purple 2 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block when they’re sewn together.)
  • Lilac: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Purple 2 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block when they’re sewn together.)
  • Lilac: Cut TWO (2) 4 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Purple 4 3/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Lilac: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ x 4 3/4″ rectangle. (These are paired with the Purple 1 7/8″ x 4 3/4″ rectangles as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank ONE (1) side, of the Lilac/Purple Half-Square Triangles, in the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block when sewn together.)
  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Lilac 2 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block when they’re sewn together.)
  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Lilac 2 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block when they’re sewn together.)
  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 4 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Lilac 4 3/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ x 4 3/4″ rectangle. (These are paired with the Lilac 1 7/8″ x
    4 3/4″ rectangles as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank both sides, of the larger Lilac/Purple Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)

Lightening Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Lightening Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Green: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the Gray 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Gray: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Green 5 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Gray: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Dk. Blue: Cut TEN (10) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create TWENTY (20) Half-Square Triangles. FOUR (4) of these Half-Square Triangles, are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These will flank the Gray 3 3/8″ square, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut TEN (10) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create TWENTY (20) Half-Square Triangles. FOUR (4) of these Half-Square Triangles, are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. (These are paired on ONE (1) side with the Green/Gray Flying Geese, they’re also paired on ONE (1) other side with the Dk. Blue/White Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. They’re paired with the White 2 1/2″ squares, they’re also paired with the White 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 5 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Pink: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the White

  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Pink 5 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Lt. Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. They’re flanked by the results of the Teal 2 3/8″ squares as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Lt. Blue: Cut ONE (1) 1 7/8″ square. (This is the very center of this quilt block. It’s paired with the Navy Blue 2″ squares & it’s also paired with the White 2″ squares. All together they’ll create ONE (1) Nine-Patch in the center of this quilt block.)
  • Teal: Cut EIGHT (8) 2″ squares. (These squares are flanked by the results of the Teal 2 3/8″ squares as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Teal: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (EIGHT (8) of these triangles will flank the Lt. Blue 2″ squares in the corner of this quilt block. They’ll also flank the Teal 2″ squares, as will the remaining 2 3/8″ squares, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Aqua: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Nine-Patch in the center of this quilt block. They’ll also flank the Teal 2″ squares as needed when it’s sewn together.)
  • Navy Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 1 7/8″ squares. They’re also paired with the Lt. Blue 1 7/8″ square. All together they’ll create ONE (1) Nine-Patch in the center of this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Navy Blue 1 7/8″ squares. They’re also paired with the Lt. Blue 1 7/8″ square. All together they’ll create ONE (1) Nine-Patch in the center of this quilt block together.)
