This Century Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Dk. Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ rectangles. (These form a “frame” around the center of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut ONE (1) 1 7/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the White 1 7/8″ x 2 5/8″ rectangles.)
  • Purple: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square.  Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the White 1 7/8″ x 2 5/8″ rectangles. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 6 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank TWO (2) sides, of the results of the White 6 1/4″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 1 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with ONE (1) end of the White 1 7/8 x 2 5.8″ rectangles which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 1 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the White 1 7/8″ x 4″ rectangles which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners. FOUR (4) of these Snowball corners will be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 1 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the Dk. Purple 1 7/8″ x 2 5/8″ rectangles. When sewn together they’ll help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ x 2 5/8″ rectangles. (These are paired with ONE (1) end of the White 1 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ x 4″ rectangles. (These are paired with the White 1 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners. FOUR (4) of these Snowball Corners will also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 6 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the Purple 6 1/4″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
