Quilted Kitchen: Cornfield Quilt Block & Cornfield Soup Recipe

Cornfield Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Yellow: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are first paired with the results of the Rust 2 7/8″ squares. Then they’re paired with the results of the Maze 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’re also the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)
  • Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ square. Then they’re paired with the results of the Tan 4 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Split Half-Square Triangles, as needed to sew it together.)
  • Rust: Cut SIX (6) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are first paired with the results of the yellow 2 7/8″ squares. Then they’re paired with the results of the Maze 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’re also the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)
  • Maze: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the combination of the results of the Yellow 2 7/8″ squares, as well as the results of the Rust 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)
  • Tan: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Yellow 5 1/4″ square & they’re also paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ square. All together they’ll create FOUR (4) Split Half-Square Triangles as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are paired with the results of the Yellow 5 1/4″ square & they’re also paired with the results of the Tan 4 7/8″ squares. All together they’ll create FOUR (4) Split Half-Square Triangles as needed to sew this quilt block together.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Shamrock Green: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/2″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Shamrock Green
    1 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles, which will create EIGHT (8) Snowball Corners, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Shamrock Green: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Shamrock Green 1 1/2″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Snowball Corners, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the Green 5 1/4″ squares as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Green: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Green
    3 3/8″ squares as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Shamrock Green 1 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Pink: Cut ONE (1) 6 7/8″ square. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the Lt. Red 6 7/8″ squares & will create a Four-Patch. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)
  • Lt. Red: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are paired with the results of the White 3 7/8″ squares. They’re also the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Lt. Red: Cut ONE (1) 6 7/8″ square. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the Pink 6 7/8″ squares & will create a Four-Patch. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These triangles are paired with the results of the Lt. Red 7 1/4″ squares. They’re also the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Red: Cut TWO (2) 4 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)
  • Red: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/4″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 1/4″ squares which will create ONE (1) Four-Patch. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Red: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are paired with the results of the White 3 3/4″ square. They’ll create a “frame” around the Four-Patch in the center of this quilt block. As needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • Red: Cut TWO (2) 4″ x 5 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Red/White Half-Square Triangles as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Red 4 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block as needed to sew it together.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/4″ squares. (These are paired with the Red 2 1/4″ squares which will create ONE (1) Four-Patch. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are paired with the results of the Red 3 3/4″ square. They’ll create a “frame” around the Four-Patch in the center of this quilt block. As needed to sew this quilt block together.)
