Double Necktie Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the White 4 1/2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 4 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4 1/2″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 4 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Blue 1 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Pink: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ square. (This is flanked on all FOUR (4) sides, by the results of the Pink 3 7/8″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut ONE (1) 3 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These are flanked on TWO (2) sides, by the Pink 3 1/2″ square, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 2 5/8″ x 4 3/4″ rectangles. (These are paired with each other & then flanked by the results of the Purple 4 1/4″ square, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the Purple 2 5/8″ x 4 3/4″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ square. (This is the upper left-hand corner of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the Pink 2 7/8″ square.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangles. (ONE (1) of these is the upper right-hand corner of this quilt block. The other ONE (1) of these is the lower left-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Pink 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 6 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these triangles for this quilt block. (This is the lower right-hand corner of this quilt block. It’s paired with the results of the Purple 4 1/4″ square & is also paired with the Purple 2 5/8″ x 4 3/4″ rectangles.)

  • Lt. Blue: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Lt. Green: Cut FOUR (4) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the White 6 1/8″ square, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Gray: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Gray: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Gray 2 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 6 1/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the Blue 2 7/8″ squares which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
