On Cloud Nine: London Roads Quilt Block

London Roads Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

London Roads Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Salmon: Cut EIGHT (8) 2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the White 1 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Salmon: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares & with the results of the White 4 7/8″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Salmon 2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Salmon
    5 1/4″ squares & with the results of the White 4 7/8″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Salmon 5 1/4″ squares & with the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (precise 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Gray: Cut SIXTEEN (16) 1 1/2″ x 2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the results of the Gray
    2 3/8″  squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Gray: Cut EIGHT (8) 1 1/2 x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are sandwiched between the Half-Square Triangles & the Gray 1 1/2″ x 2″ rectangles. As needed for this quilt block.)
  • Gray: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 3/8″ squares, which will create THIRTY-TWO (32) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 3/8″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Gray 2 3/8″ squares, which will create THIRTY-TWO (32) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Yellow: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR corners of this quilt block.)
  • Red: Cut EIGHT (8) 2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the White 1 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Red 2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Yellow 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR corners of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Pink: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut EIGHT (8) 1 7/8″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Pink 1 7/8″ x 4 3/4″ rectangles which will produce SIXTEEN (16) Snowball Corners. FOUR (4) of these Snowball Corners will be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ x 4 3/4″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Pink 1 7/8″ squares, which will produce SIXTEEN (16) Snowball Corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Pink 1 7/8″ x

  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the White 3 3/8″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the White
    5 1/4″ squares, which will produce FOUR (4) Square in a Squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
