Amish Shoofly Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These will flank the Maroon 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ strips on TWO (2) sides, and the Maroon 2 1/2″ squares on the remaining TWO (2) sides, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Yellow: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Maroon 2 7/8″ squares, to create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Yellow: Cut TWO 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Maroon 3 3/8″ square, which will create a Square in a Square, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Maroon 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Maroon: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (These will be flanked by the results of the Yellow 2 7/8″ squares, and will create a Square in a Square, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Maroon: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/2″ squares. (These will flank, on TWO (2) sides, the Yellow 2 1/2″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.
- Maroon: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ strips. (These will be flanked on all FOUR (4) ends, by the Yellow 2 1/2″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Maroon: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Yellow 2 7/8″ squares, to create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Maroon: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will be flanked by the results of the Yellow 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
