Fancy Star Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Fancy Star Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles will flank the Green 3 3/8″ square in the center of this quilt block. Which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/8″ squares. (These squares are flanked by the results of the Green
    3 1/4″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Square in a Squares.)
  • Green: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the Yellow 3 1/4″ square. Which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the Yellow 3 3/8″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Square in a Squares.)
  • Teal: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • Teal: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • Teal: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/8″ squares. (These squares are paired with the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares. They’re also paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the Teal 3 1/4″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. They’re paired with the Teal 3 3/8″ squares.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the Teal 2 7/8″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the Teal 3 3/8″ squares.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Aqua: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the Peach 3 3/8″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Square in a Squares.)
  • Peach: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These squares are flanked by the results of the Aqua 3 1/4″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Square in a Squares.)
  • Peach: Cut ONE (1) 2 1/2″ square. (This square is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the Blue 3 1/4″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • Pink: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • Pink: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the Blue 3 1/4″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the Pink 2 7/8″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles will flank the Peach 2 1/2″ square in the center of this quilt block. They’ll create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ rectangles. (These are paired with the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares in the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the Blue 3 1/4″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. They’re paired with the Blue 1 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ rectangles.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the Pink 2 7/8″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the Aqua/Peach Square in a Squares. They’re also paired with the Blue/White Flying Geese & the Blue 1 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ rectangles.)
