Star Power: Constellation Star Quilt Block & Constellation Star Variation Quilt Block

Constellation Star Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Constellation Star Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Dk. Blue: Cut ONE (1) 2 5/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the White 2 3/8″ squares. Which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • Dk. Blue: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Dk. Blue: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles.)
  • Dk. Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the White 4 1/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 3/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the White
    2 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These will “frame” the left & right sides of the Square in a Square at the center of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 2″ x 6 1/2″ rectangles. (These will “frame” the top & bottom sides of the Square in a Square at the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2″ squares. (These squares are paired with the Blue/White Half-Square Triangles & will create a Four-Patch in the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2″ squares. (These squares are paired with both ends of the Blue 2″ x
    6 1/2″ rectangles.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the Dk. Blue 2 5/8″ square in the center of this quilt block. Which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Dk. Blue 2 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (3) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Dk. Blue 2 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 2 3/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the Blue 4 1/4″ square which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the Dk. Blue 2 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)

  • Purple: Cut ONE (1) 2 3/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles. (These triangles are paired with the results of the Lavender 2 3/8″ squares which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. Once the Quarter-Square Triangle’s sewn together then it’s flanked by the results of the White 2 3/8″ squares. Which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles.)
  • Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the White 4 1/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • Lavender: Cut ONE (1) 2 3/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles. (These triangles are paired with the results of the Purple 2 3/8″ square which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. Once the Quarter-Square Triangle’s sewn together then it’s flanked by the results of the White 2 3/8″ squares. Which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • Lavender: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 3/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles.)
  • Lavender: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the White

(These triangles will flank the Lavender/Purple Square in a Square that’s in the center of this quilt block. Which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Purple 2 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (3) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Purple 2 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Lavender 2 3/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the Lavender 4 1/4″ square which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the Purplee
