Countdown to Christmas 12/3/2020: Divinity Quilt Block

Divinity Quilt Block Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Divinity Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Pink: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are flanked by the White 1 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut ONE (1) 4 3/4″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the White 3 7/8″ squares which will create a Square in a Square.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Pink 3 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These will flank the Pink 4 3/4″ square which will create a Square in a Square. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 1 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ rectangles. (These will flank the Pink 3 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)

If you make TWELVE (12) “Divinity Quilt Blocks,” you’ll end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished, 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Green: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 3/8″ squares, which will create SIXTEEN (16) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the White 4 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time.(These are paired with the Green 2 3/8″ squares, which will create SIXTEEN (16) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square.   • White: Cut SIXTEEN (16) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These will flank the results of the Green
    2 3/8″ squares & the results of the White 2 3/8″ squares. As well as the results of the Green
    4 1/4″ squares & the White 4 1/4″ squares. All are needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Green: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Tan 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut ONE (1) 6 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these triangles for this quilt block. (This is the lower left-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • Tan: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Green 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Tan: Cut ONE 6 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these triangles for this quilt block. (This is the upper right-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 5/8″ x 13 7/8″ rectangles. (These will flank both sides of the results of the Green 3 7/8″ squares & the results of the Tan 3 7/8″ squares. Once you’ve sewn the quilt block together, then cut the excess fabric from these rectangles, off around the edges. So that your quilt block = a 12 1/2″ unfinished size.)
