Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Green: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 1 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
- Green: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ x 3 1/8″ rectangles. (These are paired with the White 1 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
- Green: Cut SIX (6) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 1/2″ squares, which will create TWELVE (12) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/8″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FIVE (5) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Green 1 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut SIX (6) 3 1/2″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Green 3 1/2″ squares, which will create TWELVE (12) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)

If you make TWELVE (12) “Continental Star Quilt Blocksâ€, you’ll end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished, 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.
Continental Star Variation Quilt Block

- Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 1 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
- Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ x 3 1/8″ rectangles. (These are paired with the White 1 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
- Yellow: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/2″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
- Yellow: Cut SIX (6) 3 1/2″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the White 3 1/2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FIVE (5) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Yellow 1 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/2″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Yellow 3 1/2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut SIX (6) 3 1/2″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Yellow 3 1/2″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
