Turkey in the Straw Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Yellow: Cut FIVE (5) 3 3/8″ squares. (These will be flanked by the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create FIVE (5) Square in a Squares. ONE (1) of these Square in a Squares is the center of this quilt block. The remaining FOUR (4) of these Square in a Squares are the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Orange: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. (These will flank the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Orange: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the White
    2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the Orange
    2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TEN (10) 2 7/8″ squares. (These will flank the Yellow 3 3/8″ squares which will create FIVE (5) Square in a Squares. ONE (1) of these Square in a Squares is the center of this quilt block. The remaining FOUR (4) of these Square in a Squares are the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Orange 5 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FIVE (5) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square.

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Peach: Cut ONE (1) 2 7/8″ square. (This is flanked on all FOUR (4) sides, by the results of the Peach 3 1/4″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Peach: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Peach: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. (These will flank the results of the White 6″ square, which will create TWO (2) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Peach: Cut THREE (3) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 5 5/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 2 7/8″ square. (This is flanked on TWO (2) sides by the results of the Peach 3 1/4″ squares. It’s also the upper left-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. On the back side draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Peach 3 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 6″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. You only need TWO (2) of these triangles to make this block. (These are flanked by the results of the Peach 3 1/4″ squares, which will create TWO (2) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ x 7 3/4″ rectangles. (These are flanked by the results of the Peach 3 1/4″ squares. ONE (1) of these will be the upper right-hand corner of this quilt block. The other ONE (1) will be the lower left-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut THREE (3) 5 5/8″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. You only need THREE (3) of these triangles to make this block. (These are flanked by the results of the Peach 3 1/4″ squares. ONE (1) of these triangles is the lower right-hand corner of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2″ squares & the Blue 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. Which will create FOUR (4) Mini-Log Cabins as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the White 2″ squares & the Blue 2 1/2″ squares to create FOUR (4) Mini-Log Cabins as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 3 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Dark Pink: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’ll be flanked by the results of the White 4 1/4″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in the Square.)
  • Dark Pink: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 4 1/4″ square as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the Blue 2″ squares & the Blue 2″ x
    3 1/2″ rectangles to create FOUR (4) Mini-Log Cabins as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut SIX (6) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are flanked by the results of the Green 4 1/4″ squares & by the results of the Dark Pink 4 1/4″ Squares. They’re also the FOUR (4) corner’s of quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the Dark Pink 3 1/2″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)

  • Purple: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’ll be flanked by the results of the White 4 1/4″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in the Square.)
  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 4 1/4″ square as is needed for this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the Yellow 2″ squares & the White 2″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Four-Patch blocks as needed for this quilt block.)

  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the Yellow 2″ squares & the Lime Green 2″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Four-Patch blocks as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut SIX (6) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will be flanked by the results of the Yellow 4 1/4″ squares. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)

    2 7/8″ square which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)

  • White: Cut ONE (1) 2 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Blue 2 7/8″ square, which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle, as needed for this quilt block.)
