Crossroads to Texas Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Yellow: Cut SIX (6) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut each square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (FOUR (4) of these are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. They all flank the results of the White 2 1/2″ squares.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 1 7/8″ squares which will create ONE (1) Nine-Patch. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut TWELVE (12) 2 5/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 5/8″ squares, which will create TWENTY-FOUR (24) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FIVE (5) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Blue 1 7/8″ squares which will create ONE (1) Nine-Patch. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ x 4 3/4″ rectangles. (These are paired with the results of the Blue 2 5/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWELVE (12) 2 5/8″ squares. On the back sides, draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 2 5/8″ squares, which will create TWENTY-FOUR (24) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 1 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired on the left & right side with the White 2 1/2″ square. They “frame” the center square.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 1 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Blue 1 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ rectangles & the White 2 1/2″ square. They “frame” the center square.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 2 1/2″ square. (This is paired with the Blue 1 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ rectangles & it’s also paired with the Blue 1 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. On the back sides, draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)

  • Aqua: Cut ONE (1) 1 7/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the White 1 7/8″ squares which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • Aqua: Cut TWO (2) 1 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired on the left & right side with the results of the White 1 7/8″ squares. They “frame” the center square.)
  • Aqua: Cut TWO (2) 1 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Blue 1 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ rectangles & the results of the White 1 7/8″ squares. They “frame” the center square.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 1 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Aqua 1 7/8″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. On the back sides, draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Aqua 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square.   • Pink: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Salmon 2 1/2″ squares as well as the Blue 2 1/2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Four-Patch blocks, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Salmon 2 1/2″ squares as well as the Pink 2 1/2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Four-Patch blocks, as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Green #1: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these triangles for this quilt block. (This is the “head” of the Fish in this quilt block.)
  • Green #1: Cut ONE (1) 3 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These are the “fins” of the Fish. They’re paired with the White 3 7/8″ squares & will flank TWO (2) sides of the White 4 3/4″ square.)
  • Green #2: Cut ONE (1) 2″ x 11″ rectangle. (This is paired on ONE (1) side by the results of the Green #1 3 7/8″ square & it’s paired on ONE (1) other side by the Green #3—2″ x 14″ rectangle.)
  • Green #3: Cut ONE (1) 2″ x 14″ rectangle. (This is paired on ONE (1) side by the Green #2—
    2″ x 11″ rectangle. It’s flanked on ONE (1) other side by the results of the Green #1—3 7/8″ square & by the results of the White 3 7/8″ square. As needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 3 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (This is paired with the results of the Green #1—
    3 7/8″ square as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 3/4″ square. (This is flanked by the results of the Green 3 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 6 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
