This pattern is made with 20 – 10″ blocks featuring a chevron-type design (shown above). The pieces are connected using a simple Y seam (Instructions given) technique.

Star Power: Best Star Quilt Block & Best Star Variation Quilt Block

Best Star Quilt Block a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Best Star Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also help create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the White 4 1/2″ square on TWO (2) sides. They’ll also flank the results of the White 2 1/2″ square on the remaining TWO (2) sides.)
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the White 3 1/4″ square & with the results of the Pink 2 7/8″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back sides, draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Pink 2 7/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also help create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will be paired with the Blue
    1 7/8″ squares & they’ll flank the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/2″ squares. (These will flank the results of the Pink 2 7/8″ squares. FOUR (4) of these squares will be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the Pink 2 7/8″ square.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Blue 1 7/8″ squares & they’ll flank the results of the Pink 2 7/8″ square. Which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Turquoise: Cut SIX (6) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create TWENTY (20) Half-Square Triangles. FOUR (4) of these Half-Square Triangles will be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Turquoise: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank on TWO (2) sides the White 4 1/2″ square as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ square. (These are paired with the results of the White 3 1/4″ square. Then they’ll flank the results of the Turquoise 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the Yellow
    1 7/8″ square & they’re also flanked by the results of the White 2 7/8″ square. Which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut SIX (6) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back sides, draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
