July 2016 “American Quilter” Article

Quilt Therapy Posted on June 2, 2016 by TK HarrisonMay 29, 2016

I get so very tickled when I see a new issue of American Quilter magazine show up in our mailbox!  My articles in them for 2016 are all written toward a personal passion of mine.  The July issue’s “Year of Giving” article focuses on “No Foster Child Left Behind.”  As many of you may know, I was a foster child from the age of 11 until I turned 18.  There is no better reason to jump in and make quilts for foster kids – they need them, they treasure them, they provide them with a sense of security and they are *always* cherished and loved.  I pray my fellow quilters can join the cause to leave no foster child behind.

TBT: Baby Loves Poetry Quilts

Quilt Therapy Posted on April 28, 2016 by TK HarrisonApril 25, 2016

One of the most downloaded quilt patterns I designed for BOMquilts.com were the “Baby Loves Poetry” quilts.  As I was searching through my photos, I came across the photos of the quilts that I made that inspired these patterns.  The quilts were gifted to two of my cousin’s children, all four of whom have a quilt from ‘Aunt Tammy’ with a heart as the focal point.  Goodness, these “Baby Loves Poetry” quilts sure did turn out great, if I do say so myself!

“Botanical Beauty” BOMquilts.com 2016 BOM Block #3 Revealed

Quilt Therapy Posted on April 14, 2016 by TK HarrisonApril 10, 2016

Do you ever design a quilt that’s out of the norm of your usual quilt designs – and then find just the right fabric to make it with?  And then, after sewing everything together, you realize you actually fell in love with said design because the blocks are undeniably beautiful and the finished quilt takes your breath away?

Yeah.  That’s been my experience with “Botanical Beauty,” a 2016 block of the month quilt I designed for BOMquilts.com.

I am not anything near a modern quilter…or a modern quilt designer.  But this “Botanical Beauty” has just about made me a convert to the usage of reducing the visual noise of quilt fabric with white.  I didn’t parlay the true spirit of modern quilts as their basis runs more toward using a muted color in the white spaces and the color where the white would normally go.

Without further ado…here is “Botanical Beauty” from BOMquilts.com:

And these are the three blocks whose instrucitons have been revealed to-date:
