Memory Star Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 3″ square. (These will be flanked on both sides by the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares, and the Red 3 1/4″ squares [which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles], as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/4″ squares. (These will be paired with the White 3 1/4″ squares to created EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Red: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. (These will be paired with the White 3 1/4″ squares to create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, which will also “frame” the center, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Red: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. (These will be paired with the White 3 1/4″ squares to create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, which will also be the FOUR (4) corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Gold: Cut TWO (2) 3 3/4″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will be paired with the results of the White 3 3/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 3″ x 7 3/4″ strip. (This will be the horizontal center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/4″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These will be paired with the Yellow 3 1/4″ squares to created EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These will be paired with the Red 3 1/4″ squares to create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, which will also “frame” the center, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These will be paired with the Red 3 1/4″ squares to create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, which will also be the FOUR (4) corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 3/4″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will be paired with the results of the White 3 3/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Mint Green: Cut FOUR (4) 3″ squares. (These will be flanked by the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares, and the Blue 3 1/4″ squares [which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles], as needed four this quilt block.)
  • Mint Green: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/4″ squares. (These will be paired with the White 3 1/4″ squares to create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. (These will be paired with the White 3 1/4″ squares to create FOUR (4)) Half-Square Triangles, which will also “frame” the center, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. (These will be paired with the White 3 1/4″ squares to create FOUR (4)) Half-Square Triangles, which will also be the FOUR (4) corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut THREE (3) 3 3/4″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need EIGHT (8) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These will be paired with the results of the White 3 3/4″ squares, which will create FIVE (5) Quarter-Square Triangles [ONE (1) of these will be the center of this quilt block], as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/4″ squares. (These will be paired with the Mint Green 3 1/4″ squares to create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. (These will be paired with the Blue 3 1/4″ squares to create FOUR (4)) Half-Square Triangles, which will also “frame” the center, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. (These will be paired with the Blue 3 1/4″ squares to create FOUR (4)) Half-Square Triangles, which will also be the FOUR (4) corners, as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Light Pink: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These will be paired with the White 3 1/4″ squares, to create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, which will also be the FOUR (4) corners as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Light Pink: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These will be paired with the Rose 3 1/4″ squares to create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Light Pink: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank ONE (1) side of the results of the White 6″ square to create FOUR (4) Flying Geese as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut TWO 3 1/4″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These will be paired with the Rose 3 1/4″ squares to create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank ONE (1) side of the results of the White 6″ square to create FOUR (4) Flying Geese as needed for this quilt block.)

  • Light Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/4″ squares. (These will be flanked by the results of the Yellow 4″ square, as well as the results of the White 4 1/4″ square, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the White 3 1/2″ squares on ONE (1) side. On the other side they will flank the Light Green 2 3/4″ squares, as well as the results of the White 4 1/4″ square, as needed for this quilt block.)

  • Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (TWO (2) sides of these will flank the White 3 1/2″ squares, while the other TWO(2) sides will flank the Pink 2 3/4″ squares and results of the White 4 1/4″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These will be flanked on TWO (2) sides by the results of the Purple 4″ squares and the remaining TWO (2) sides will be the corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Pink 4 3/4″ square which will create the Square in a Square, as well as being the center of this quilt block, as needed for this quilt block.)

Star Power: Sandhills Star Quilt Block & Sandhills Star Variation Quilt Block

Sandhills Star Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (precise 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares.
  • Turquoise: Cut FOUR (4) 1 3/4″ squares.
  • Turquoise: Cut FOUR (4) 1 3/4″ x 3 1/4″ strips.
  • Turquoise: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles will be used to flank with the results from the FOUR (4) of the Emerald 2 3/4″ squares to create the Flying Geese portion of this quilt block.)
  • Emerald: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will be paired with the results from the Turquoise 3 1/4″ triangles to create the Flying Geese portion of this quilt block.)
  • Emerald: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will be used to flank the half-square triangles portion of this quilt block.)
  • Emerald: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/4″ squares. On the back side the square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These will be paired with the White 2 3/4″ squares to create FOUR (4) half-square triangles.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (2) 2 1/2″ squares.
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/4″ squares.
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/4″ squares. (These will be paired with the Emerald 2 3/4″ squares to create FOUR (4) half-square triangles portion of this quilt block.)

  • Green: Cut TWO (2) 2 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will be used to flank the half-square triangles portion of this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/4″ squares. On the back side the square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These will be paired with the White 2 3/4″ squares to create FOUR (4) half-square triangles.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares.
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/4″ squares. (These will be paired with the Green 2 3/4″ squares to create FOUR (4) half-square triangles.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Lime Green and the Green 2 1/2″ squares to create the Square in a Square portion of this quilt block.)
