Stacked Stars Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (precise 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Yellow: Cut FOUR 2 5/8″ squares. Then cut each square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (FOUR (4) of these will flank the results of the White 4 5/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese. The other FOUR (4) of these will flank the results of the Purple 4 5/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) additional Flying Geese for this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 4 5/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (TWO (2) of these will be flanked by the results of the White 2 5/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese. The other FOUR (4) of these will be flanked by the results of the Purple 2 5/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) additional Flying Geese for this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are flanked on TWO (2) sides by the results of the Yellow 4 5/8″ squares & on the other TWO (2) sides by the results of the Yellow 2 5/8″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/4″ squares. (FOUR (4) of these are the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block. The remaining FOUR (4) of these are the outside center’s of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut FOUR 2 5/8″ squares. Then cut each square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (FOUR (4) of these will flank the results of the White 4 5/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese. The other FOUR (4) of these will flank the results of the Yellow 4 5/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) additional Flying Geese for this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut ONE (1) 4 5/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (TWO (2) of these will be flanked by the results of the White 2 5/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese. The other FOUR (4) of these will be flanked by the results of the Yellow 2 5/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) additional Flying Geese for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 2 1/4″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR 2 5/8″ squares. Then cut each square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (FOUR (4) of these will flank the results of the Purple 4 5/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese. The other FOUR (4) of these will flank the results of the Yellow 4 5/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) additional Flying Geese for this quilt block.)

(TWO (2) of these will be flanked by the results of the Pink 2 5/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese. The remaining TWO (2) of these will be flanked by the results of the Gray 2 5/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) additional Flying Geese for this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are flanked by the results of the White 2 5/8″ squares, which will create TWO (2) Square in a Square’s, for this quilt block.)
  • Gray: Cut NINE (9) 2 1/4″ squares. (ONE (1) of these will be the center of this quilt block. FOUR (4) of these are the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block. The remaining FOUR (4) of these are the outside center’s of this quilt block.)
  • Gray: Cut FOUR 2 5/8″ squares. Then cut each square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (FOUR (4) of these will flank the results of the Pink 4 5/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese. The remaining FOUR (4) of these will flank the results of the White 4 5/8″ squares, which will create an additional FOUR (4) Flying Geese for this quilt block.)
  • Gray: Cut ONE (1) 4 5/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (TWO (2) of these will be flanked by the results of the Pink 2 5/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese. (Ed. Note: There are FOUR (4) different shades of Blue in this quilt block. Baby Blue, Light Blue, Medium Blue & Navy Blue. You can mix & match however you’d like to. Or make it a scrappy quilt block instead. Up to you!)

  • Baby Blue: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Yellow 3 1/2″ squares & they’ll be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Light Blue: Cut ONE (1) 4″ square. (This is paired with the Yellow 4″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Light Blue: Cut ONE (1) 4″ square. On the back side of the square, draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (This is paired with the Navy Blue 4″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Purple: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ square. (This will be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/2″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 4 1/4″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 1/2″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are flanked by the results of the Purple 2 1/2″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWELVE (12) 2″ squares. (These will flank the results of the Purple 2 1/2″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are flanked by the results of the Purple 2 1/2″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
