Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Yellow: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 7/8″ squares. (FOUR (4) of these are flanked by the results of the Yellow 3 1/4″ squares & the remaining FOUR (4) are flanked by the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares. As needed for this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/4″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut SIX (6) 2 7/8″ squares. (FOUR (4) of these will be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block. The remaining TWO (2) are paired with the Yellow 2 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/4″ squares. On the back side the square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Yellow 2 7/8″ squares, which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 2 7/8″ x 7 3/4″ rectangle. (This will be the center of this quilt block.)

  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create a Nine-Patch, in the center of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Light Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 1/2″ squares which will create TWO (2) Four-Patch’s. ONE (1) of these Four-Patch’s will be the upper left-hand corner of this quilt block. The remaining ONE (1) of them will be the lower right-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • Light Green: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Medium Green 2 1/2″ squares, which will create ONE (1) Four-Patch, which will be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Medium Green: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 1/2″ squares which will create TWO (2) Four-Patch’s. ONE (1) of these Four-Patch’s will be the upper right-hand corner of this quilt block. The remaining ONE (1) of them will be the lower left-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • Medium Green: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Light Green 2 1/2″ squares, which will create ONE (1) Four-Patch, which will be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Dark Green: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Light Green 2 1/2″ squares which will create TWO (2) Four-Patch’s. ONE (1) of these Four-Patch’s will be the upper left-hand corner of this quilt block. The remaining ONE (1) of them will be the lower right-hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Medium Green 2 1/2″ squares which will create TWO (2) Four-Patch’s.   • Orange: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Orange 2 1/2″ squares, which will create ONE (1) Four-Patch & they’ll be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Orange: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Rust: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)

  • Green: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (TWO (2) of these are paired with the results of the Dark Blue 5 1/4″ & the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares which will create TWO (2) Quarter-Square Triangles. The remaining TWO (2) of these are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. It’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)

If you make TWELVE (12) “Midnight Star Quilt Blocks,” you’ll end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished, 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.

Midnight Star Variation Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Dark Green: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Dark Green: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (TWO (2) of these are paired with the results of the Dark Blue 5 1/4″ square & the results of the White 5 1/4″ square. Which will create TWO (2) Quarter-Square Triangles. The remaining TWO (2) are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ square, which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle & it’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Dark Blue: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ square, which will create TWO (2) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Dark Blue: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Dark Green 5 1/4″ square & with the results of the White 5 1/4″ square. Which will create TWO (2) Quarter-Square Triangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. On the back side draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Dark Green 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Dark Blue 5 1/4″ square, which will create TWO (2) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Dark Green 5 1/4″ square & with the results of the Dark Blue 5 1/4″ square. Which will create TWO (2) Quarter-Square Triangles as needed for this quilt block.)
