Capital Star Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Capital Star Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the Lt. Pink 6 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • Pink: Cut ONE (1) 6 3/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the Lt. Pink 3 3/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • Lt. Pink: FOUR (4) 3 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the Pink 6 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • Lt. Pink: Cut ONE (1) 6 3/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the Pink 3 3/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • Lt. Pink: Cut ONE (1) 5″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
  • Lt. Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 5″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)

  • Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the Lavender 6 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • Purple: Cut ONE (1) 6 3/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles are flanked by the results of the Lavender 3 3/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • Purple: Cut ONE (1) 3 7/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It is flanked by the results of the Lavender 3 3/4″ squares. Once it is all sewn together it will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • Lavender: Cut TWO (2) 3 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the Purple 3 7/8″ square in the center of this quilt block. Once they are all sewn together they will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
  • Lavender: Cut FOUR (4) 3 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the Purple 6 3/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)

Stuffed Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Turquoise: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s paired with the Pink 3 1/8″ squares.)
  • Turquoise: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 7″ rectangles. (These are paired with the White 2 1/2″ x 7″ rectangles.)
  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Pink 3 1/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners.)
  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/8″ squares. (These are first paired with the Pink 3 1/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corners. Then they are paired with the results of the White 5 3/8″ squares. Finally they are paired with the Turquoise 3 1/8″ square. Once they are all sewn together they will create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut TWO (2) 4 3/4″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4 3/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They will also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 7″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Turquoise 2 1/2″ x 7″ rectangles.
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 3/4″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Pink 4 3/4″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They will also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 5 3/4″ squares.Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Green 3″ squares. They are also paired with the results of the White 3 3/4″ squares. Once they are all sewn together they will create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut TWO (2) 3″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the White 3 3/4″ squares. They are also paired with the results of the Blue 5 3/4″ squares. Once they are all sewn together they will create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut TWO (2) 3″ squares. (These are paired with the Red 3″ squares.)
  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 3″ squares. (These are paired with the Red 3″ squares. Once they are sewn together they will create TWO (2) Four-Patches in the center of this quilt block.)
  • Green: Cut TWO (2) 3 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank ONE (1) side of the results of the White 6 3/8″ square. Once they are sewn together with the results of the Red 3 3/4″ squares they will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese.)
  • Red: Cut TWO (2) 3″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the White 3 3/4″ squares. They are also paired with the results of the Blue 5 3/4″ squares. Once they are all sewn together they will create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Red: Cut TWO (2) 3″ squares. (These are paired with the Green 3″ squares.)

  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/4″ square. (These are paired with the Yellow 3 3/4″ square which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. Then they are paired with the results of the White 3 3/4″ squares. They are also paired with the results of the Yellow 5 3/4″ squares. Once they are all sewn together they will create TWO (2) corners of this quilt block.
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 3 3/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles per square.   • Lt. Green: Cut ONE (1) 4 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. Will yield TWO (2) triangles. (These triangles are paired with the results of the Dk. Green 4 7/8″ square which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. Once it is sewn together it will be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Lt. Green: Cut TWO (2) 6 3/8″ square. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. Will yield FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the results of the Green 6 3/8″ square which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles.
