Flashback Tuesday: Nine Patch Nirvana from BlockCentral.com

Quilt Therapy Posted on March 25, 2014 by TK HarrisonMarch 23, 2014

In 2006, I was pretty new to block of the month quilt process but decided to do two quilts out of a lovely pattern at BlockCentral.com named “Nine Patch Nirvana”.  I could make a nine patch.  I could sew on borders.  I even followed the pattern, which is funny as I change patterns all the time (mine and others’ patterns).  I was sure I had the skills needed to make that quilt.  Then, I visited with a dear friend and she wanted the same quilt design but with her chosen ‘beach’ colors.  So, instead of making one block a month, I made two.  And I must say, I am extremely pleased with the results.  My “Nine Patch Nirvana” is on the back of the sofa and is a beloved quilt for anyone who feels cold or sleeps on the sofa.

And here is my friend’s quilt, which turned out exactly as she wanted it to look:

That one quilt pattern and process began a passionate fire in me and the very next year, I designed my first block of the month quilt on my BOMquilts.com website!  It was a HUGE success with my website audience and made a good amount of money for the shop that sponsored it.

Do YOU enjoy block of the month quilts?

Quilting for Memories

Quilt Therapy Posted on March 24, 2014 by TK HarrisonMarch 23, 2014

I have written about this quilt a few times before…here and here.  And will have one more post about it once I finish whip-stitching the binding to the back of the quilt.  But, this whole quilt-making process deserves attention.  Each part of the process is enjoyable to me and as I hand-stitch the binding to the back of the quilt, I pray for the recipient.  Bingo!  Multitasking at it’s best!

Meloney gave me the completed quilt last week and I have been savoring the near-final completion to get the binding done.  But, I cannot pass up the beautiful cabbage roses that Meloney quilted on the quilt:

And here is a bit more of the top of the quilt, with the quilting completed:

One very special quilt for a very special local lady.  The memory quilt is embodies LOVE.  I know my friend will love and cherish it for many years to come.

Friday Funday: Scrappy Christmas Stockings

Quilt Therapy Posted on March 21, 2014 by TK HarrisonMarch 17, 2014

It’s never too early to start planning for Christmas – well, except when the stores begin putting out their wares before Halloween!  I designed these miniature scrappy Christmas stockings out of Jelly Roll strips:

Holly Jolly Gift Christmas Stockings
Free Pattern from BOMquilts.com!

The pattern can easily be adapted to make larger Christmas stockings and they are SEW EASY to put together!  I may even revisit my Christmas Jelly Roll stash and make these small ones for our family’s 2014 Christmas – and stash a little bit of candy, a gift card or a lump of coal in each one!  🙂

Quilted Lovies!

Quilt Therapy Posted on March 19, 2014 by TK HarrisonMarch 17, 2014

Have no fear, my Quilted Lovies are HERE!

I made a vow, at the beginning of February 2014, that I would make three charity quilt projects a month.  One will be a quilt for my church’s Lutheran World Relief ongoing quilt donations, one will be for Military Veteran’s and one will be a Quilted Lovie.  Thus far, February is in the bag and I am working on fitting my March charity quilt projects into my schedule.

The two images below are the results of my February and March Quilted Lovie goal:

Are YOU making and gifting any Quilted Lovies?  There are a number of free patterns on the Quilted Lovies website – so, get busy and please share your Quilted Lovie photos with me!

Flashback Tuesday: Baby Boy Loves Poetry

Quilt Therapy Posted on March 11, 2014 by TK HarrisonMarch 9, 2014

I absolutely LOVED making this quilt, and it’s companion, the “Baby Girl Loves Poetry“.  Asymmetrical log cabin blocks were used for the heart with added love blocks at the top and bottom of the quilt.

What are you waiting for?  Get busy – this quilt goes together quickly and is a blessing to anyone you gift it to!
