A Little Quilt Therapy’ll Do Ya

Quilt Therapy Posted on March 11, 2015 by TK HarrisonMarch 9, 2015

My kids are on spring break.  While this is a time for many students and families to run off a play for a week, my kids get to stay home and enjoy some down-time interspersed with doctor’s appointments.  It’s the only time we can fit them into their busy schedules unless we want to pull them out of school – and none of them want to be pulled out of school!

Spring break for this mom means no time to quilt.  I want to spend time with my kids.  It’s supposed to rain (GAH!  the mud!) most of the week so they’ll be stuck inside, when they’re not at their doctor’s appointments.

I decided I would carve out 30 minutes each day to sew.  Sunday evening was my first night of this spring break experiment.

I am making a 10″ block (finished size) lap quilt.  Super simple. I already had the fabric (from AbbiMays.com, of course) and the squares cut out so I sat down at my sewing machine and put together nine squares.  Just nine.  This little bit of piecing constitutes one-fourth of my quilt top (sans the borders).

test

How fun!  If I use those 30 minutes a day wisely, I can complete the quilt top on day five by adding the first border and adding the second border on day six.

HalleQUILTlujah!

A Quilting We Will Go!

Quilt Therapy Posted on November 10, 2014 by TK HarrisonNovember 10, 2014

I have an amazing longarm quilter, Meloney Funk, who is a friend in every sense of the word.  She takes my quilts and quilts her magic.  Her quilting enhances every single quilt top I send to her.  I just received a baby quilt from her this past week and had to blog about it – HAD to!

Here is the quilting from the back of the quilt:

And here is what she quilted on the front:

Maybe when I grow up, I can learn to quilt like Meloney!

Baby Quilts Galore!

Quilt Therapy Posted on August 6, 2014 by TK HarrisonAugust 3, 2014

I am not drinking the water.  Nope.  I refuse.  I already have four teenagers in the house (pray for me!), I do not want nor need a baby in the house, too!

But, that doesn’t mean I don’t love babies – and making baby quilts seems to be a niche I’ve enjoyed and even thrived at over the years.  Right now, I have two baby quilts in-the-works.  One, I am just beginning to sew the borders on (it’s a panel) and another is already quilted and just waiting for the binding.

Flashback Tuesday: Golden Royal Layers designed by BOMquilts.com

Quilt Therapy Posted on July 29, 2014 by TK HarrisonJuly 25, 2014

Since we have been celebrating “Christmas in July 2014” at BOMquilts.com, I thought it appropriate to flashback on another holiday quilt gem from our “Christmas in July 2008” selections – “Golden Royal Layers“:

This finished out to be an absolutely gorgeous quilt…I just wish I remember who I gifted it to!  LOL

Try making it with your favorite holiday fabrics that are on the market now, but be sure you find a fabric that has the fabric panels as that’s one of the things that really makes this quilt stand out!
