On Cloud Nine: Glory Be Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Pink: Cut EIGHT (8) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the Blue 2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Four-Patch portion’s of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut SIXTEEN (16) 2″ squares. EIGHT (8) of these will flank the results of the Purple
    2 1/4″ squares. The remaining EIGHT (8) will flank the White 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 2″ square. (This will be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut EIGHT (8) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the Pink 2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Four-Patch portion’s of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut SIXTEEN (16) 2 1/4″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the White 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles, which will create SIXTEEN (16) Snowball Corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut SIXTEEN (16) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. These are paired with the Purple 2 1/4″ squares, which will create SIXTEEN (16) Snowball Corners, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 6″ rectangles. (These will be the horizontal & vertical centers of this quilt block.)

(Ed. Note: This block’s a scrappy block. Pick & choose whatever colors you’d like to use from your scrappy bins. Then make it as colorful as possible!)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (precise 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Medium Blue: Cut ONE (1) 1 1/2″ square.
  • Rust: Cut TWO (2) 1 1/2″ squares.
  • Pink: Cut THREE (3) 1 1/2″ squares.
  • Mint Green, Turquoise: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ squares of EACH color.
  • Purple, Yellow: Cut FIVE (5) 1 1/2″ squares of EACH color.
  • Purple, Yellow, Medium Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares of EACH color.
  • Rust: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/2″ squares.
  • Blue: Cut SIX (6) 1 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ rectangles.
  • Purple, Pink, Medium Blue: Cut TWO (2) 1 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ rectangles of EACH color.
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square.

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2″ squares, which will create a Nine-Patch. It’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut SIXTEEN (16) 1 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 1 1/2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Nine-Patch portions. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Turquoise: Cut FOUR (4) 4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 7 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FIVE (5) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the Purple 2″ squares, which will create a Nine-Patch. It’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWENTY (20) 1 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Purple 1 1/2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Nine-Patch portions. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the center Nine-Patch & will create a Square in a Square. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the Turquoise 4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Orange: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This will be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Gold: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These will be flanked by the results of the Bright Orange 3″ squares & are paired with the results of the White 5″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Split Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Gold: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Bright Orange 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Bright Orange: Cut FOUR (4) 3″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Orange
    2 1/2″ squares & are paired with the results of the White 5″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Split Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Bright Orange: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Gold 5 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are flanked by the Gold 2 1/2″ squares & the results of the Bright Orange 3″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Split Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut TWENTY (20) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2″ squares, which will create FIVE (5) Nine-Patch’s. FOUR (4) of these Nine-Patch’s will be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block. The remaining ONE (1) Nine-Patch will be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut SIXTEEN (16) 2″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the White 4 1/2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corner portion’s of this quilt block.)
