On Cloud Nine: The Dandy Quilt Block

The Dandy Quilt Block Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

The Dandy Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Gold: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Maroon: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/2″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the White 4 1/2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corner portion’s, of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This will be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 4 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Maroon 2 1/2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Snowball Corner portion’s, of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Gold 4 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Light Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 4 1/2″ squares. (These will flank on all FOUR (4) sides, the White
    4 1/4″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Dark Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. (These will be flanked on TWO (2) sides, by the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares. When sewn together, these are paired with Pink 4 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They will also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the combination of the Bright Pink 2″ squares & the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They will also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE 4 1/2″ squares. (This will be flanked on all FOUR (4) sides, by the Pink 4 1/2″ squares. It will also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank on TWO (2) sides the Dark Pink 2″ squares. When sewn together, these are paired with Pink 4 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They will also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)

Ballot Box Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Light Blue: Cut ONE (1) 6 1/8″ square. (This will be the “ballot” portion of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This will be flanked on one side by the results of the Blue
    4 1/2″ square, and on the other side by the Blue 3 3/8″ x 11 7/8″ strip, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 3 3/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (One of these will flank the Blue 3 3/8″ square & the other will flank the Blue 3 3/8″ x 11 7/8″ strip, which will create TWO (2) Snowball Corner’s, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) Blue 3 3/8″ x 11 7/8″ strip. (This will be the long side of the “Check Mark” of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will be the top & bottom left-hand corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 8 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these triangles for this quilt block. (This will flank the Light Blue 6 1/8″ square on one side, and the long side of the “Check Mark” on the other side, as needed for this quilt block.
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 9 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these triangles for this quilt block. (This will be the bottom right-hand corner of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 1 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ strips. (These will be flanked on both sides, by the White 3″ x 3 1/2″ strips, as needed for this quilt block.
  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ strips. (These will flank on both sides, the White 1 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ strips, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 7/8″ squares, which will make FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need TWO (2) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These will be paired with the results of the White 7 1/4″ square, to create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. This will also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 1 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ strips. (These will be flanked on both sides, by the Blue 3″ x 3 1/2″ strips, as needed for this quilt block.
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ strips. (These will flank on both sides, the Blue 1 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ strips, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Blue 3 7/8″ squares, which will make FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need TWO (2) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These will be paired with the results of the Blue 7 1/4″ square, to create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 4 1/2″ squares. (These will be used on all FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need SIX (6) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These will be paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares, to created THREE (3) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/2″ squares. (These will be flanked on two sides, by the Blue 4 1/2″ squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles.
