Four Squares Quilt Block Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!Four Squares Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Green: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ rectangles. (These are paired with the White 1 7/8″ x
    3 3/8″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Aqua: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank the White
    2 1/2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Square in a Squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are flanked by the results of the Aqua 3 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Square in a Squares, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 7/8″ x 3 3/8″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Green 1 7/8″ x
    3 3/8″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 6 7/8″ squares. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Bright Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Fuchsia 2 1/2″ squares to create TWO (2) Four-Patch portion’s of this quilt block. They’ll also be the upper right-hand & the lower left-hand corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Bright Pink: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (TWO (2) of these triangles are paired with the results of the Burgundy 5 1/4″ squares & the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares, which will create TWO (2) Quarter-Square Triangles, for this quilt block. The remaining TWO (2) are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ square & the Burgundy 4 7/8″ squares, which will create TWO (2) Split Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Fuchsia: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Bright Pink 2 1/2″ squares to create TWO (2) Four-Patch portion’s of this quilt block. They’ll also be the upper right-hand & the lower left-hand corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Fuchsia: Cut ONE (1) 4 7/8″ square. On the back side the square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (This is paired with the Burgundy 4 7/8″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the upper left-hand & the lower right-hand corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Burgundy: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 1/2″ squares, which will create ONE (1) Four-Patch & it’ll be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Burgundy: Cut ONE (1) 4 7/8″ square. (This is paired with the Fuchsia 4 7/8″ square, which will create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the upper left-hand & the lower right-hand corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Burgundy: Cut ONE (1) 4 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Bright Pink 5 1/4″ square & the results of the White 5 1/4″ square, which will create TWO (2) Split Quarter-Square Triangles for this quilt block.)
  • Burgundy: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need TWO (2) of these triangles to make this quilt block. (These are paired with the results of the Bright Pink 5 1/4″ square & the results of the White 5 1/2″ square. Which will create TWO (2) Quarter-Square Triangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Burgundy 2 1/2″ squares,  which will create ONE (1) Four-Patch & it’ll be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (You only need SIX (6) of these triangles to make this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Orange: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ square. (This is the very center of this quilt block.)
  • Orange: Cut TWELVE (12) 1 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 1 1/2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Four-Patch portion’s of this quilt block. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Orange: Cut TWO (2) 3″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the White 3 1/2″ squares. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These will flank the White 2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles as needed for the border’s of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will flank the White 3 1/2″ squares. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 1 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Orange 1 1/2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Four-Patch portion’s of this quilt block. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are flanked by the Purple 2 1/2″ squares as needed for the border’s of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are flanked by the results of the Orange 3″ squares & the results of the Purple 5 1/4″ squares. Which will help create the center of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Gray: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ square. (This is flanked by the results of the Light Blue 3″ squares, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. It’s also the center of this quilt block.)
  • Gray: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/4″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the White 4 1/2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Square in a Squares. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Light Blue 5 1/4″ squares & the White 5 1/4″ square. Which will create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
