On Cloud Nine: Stella Quilt Block

Stella Quilt Block is a Free Pattern for a 12" quilt block at QuiltTherapy.com!

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Rust: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Peach
    5 1/4″ squares & with the results of the White 5 1/4″ square. Together they’ll create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Peach: Cut TWO (2) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Rust 5 1/4″ square & with the results of the White 5 1/4″ square. Together they’ll create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FIVE (5) 4 1/2″ squares. (ONE (1) of these squares is the center of this quilt block. The rest of them are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Peach
    5 1/4″ squares & with the results of the Rust 5 1/4″ square. Together they’ll create FOUR (4) Quarter-Square Triangles as needed for this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Red: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 1/2″ squares. Then they’re paired with the White 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. All together they’ll create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut TWO (2) 3 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ square & together they’ll create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need TWO (2) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These are paired with the White 3 3/8″ squares & together they’ll create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the White
    5 1/4″ squares, which will create TWO (2) Quarter-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Pink: Using the TWO (2) extra triangles from the previous 5 1/4″ square. (These are flanked by the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create TWO (2) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Pink 2 1/2″ squares. Then they’re paired with the White 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. All together they’ll create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the White 2 1/2″ squares & the Pink 2 1/2″ squares. All together they’ll create the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Pink 5 1/4″ square, which will create TWO (2) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank TWO (2) sides of the Pink 3 3/8″ squares & will help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Teal: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the White 3 3/8″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. They’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
  • Teal: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Pink: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. FOUR (4) of these Half-Square Triangles will be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Red: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create SIXTEEN (16) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Red: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the White 2 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time.
