Rocky Road Quilt Block




Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Tan: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/2″ squares. (ONE (1) of these will be sewn in Row #2 & the other ONE (1) will be sewn in the left-hand corner portion, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Tan: Cut TWO (2) 3 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ strips. (ONE (1) of these will be sewn into Row #1 & the other ONE (1) will be sewn in the left-hand corner portion, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Light Brown: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ square. (This will be sewn in the left-hand corner portion as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Light Brown: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ strip. (This will be sewn into Row #2 & will be flanked one ONE (1) side by the Tan 3 1/2″ square & on the other side by the Brown 3 1/2″ square. As needed for this quilt block.)
  • Brown: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ square. (This will be sewn into Row #2 & will flank a Tan 3 1/2″ x
    6 1/2″ strip, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Brown: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ strip. (This will be sewn into Row #1 as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Brown: Cut ONE (1) 6 1/2″ square. (This will be paired with the left-hand corner portion of this quilt block, it will also be the right-hand portion of this quilt block.)

Devil’s Claw Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Brown: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Brown: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 7 1/4″ squares, and will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Brown: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need TWO (2) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These are paired with the results of the White 7 1/4″ square, to create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. This will also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Brown 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will be flanked by the results of the Brown 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need TWO (2) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These are paired with the results of the Brown 7 1/4″ square, to create ONE (1) Quarter-Square Triangle. This will also be the center of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Blue: Cut TWO (2) 2 5/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Brown 2 5/8″ squares, which will create a Four-Patch. They will also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 3 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These will flank TWO (2) sides of the Four-Patch, they will also create Square in a Square #1, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 5″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These will be flanked on ONE (1) side by the results of the Blue 6 7/8″ square & on the other side by the results of the Brown 6 7/8″ square, which will create Square in a Square #2 as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 6 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These will create Square in a Square #3 & they will also be TWO (2) corners of this quilt block.)
  • Brown: Cut TWO (2) 2 5/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Blue 2 5/8″ squares, which will create a Four-Patch. They will also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Brown: Cut ONE (1) 3 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These will flank TWO (2) sides of the Four-Patch, they will also create Square in a Square #1, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Brown: Cut ONE (1) 5″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These will be flanked on ONE (1) side by the results of the Blue 6 7/8″ square & on the other side by the results of the Brown 6 7/8″ square, which will create Square in a Square #2 as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Brown: Cut ONE (1) 6 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These will create Square in a Square #3 & they will also be TWO (2) corners of this quilt block.)

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

  • Yellow: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the White 4 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 8 7/8″ square. (This is paired with the Brown 8 7/8″ square, to create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block.
  • Brown: Cut ONE (1) 8 7/8″ square. (This is paired with the Yellow 8 7/8″ square, to create TWO (2) Half-Square Triangles. You only need ONE (1) of these Half-Square Triangles for this quilt block.
  • White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This will be used in the upper-right hand corner of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Yellow 4 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)

  • Blue: Cut ONE (1) 3 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Dark Purple 3 7/8″ square, which will create a Quarter-Square Triangle & a Square in a Square. It will also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Purple: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Quarter-Square Triangle & will create a Square in a Square. It will also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Dark Purple: Cut ONE (1) 3 7/8″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Blue 3 7/8″ square, which will create a Quarter-Square Triangle & a Square in a Square. It will also be the center of this quilt block.)
  • Dark Purple: Cut EIGHT (8) 2″ squares. (These will be paired with the White 2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Four-Patch sections, for the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • Dark Purple: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You will end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will be flanked by the results of the White 3 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2″ squares. (These will be paired with the Dark Purple 2″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Four-Patch sections, for the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
  • White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You will end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the  Dark Purple 7 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
