Sunshine Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Green: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. They’re paired with the Yellow 2″ squares, plus they’re paired with the results of the White 2 3/8″ squares, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- Green: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These triangles will flank the Yellow 3 1/2″ square, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- Red: Cut FOUR (4) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the results of the White 3 7/8″ squares. They’re also paired with the Yellow 2″ squares & the results of the White 2 3/8″ squares. All are needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- Yellow: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s flanked by the results of the Green 5 1/4″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square.)
- Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the White 2 3/8″ squares. Then they’re paired with the results of the Red 3 7/8″ squares. Finally they’re paired with the results of the Green 3 7/8″ squares. All are needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles. (These are flanked by the results of the White
2 3/8″ squares. They’re also flanked by the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares. All are needed to sew this quilt block together.) - White: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles will flank the results of the Green 5 1/4″ square, which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square, as needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These triangles are paired with the Yellow 2″ squares. They’re also paired with the results of the Green 3 7/8″ squares. Plus they’re paired with the results of the Red 3 7/8″ squares. All are needed to sew this quilt block together.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the Yellow 2″ x
3 1/2″ rectangles as needed to sew this quilt block together.) - White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the Yellow 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles as needed to sew this quilt block together.)

If you sew TWELVE (12) “Sunshine Quilt Blocks” you’ll end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished, 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.
