Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Dk. Green: Cut FOUR (4) 4 1/2″ squares. (These are paired with the Quarter-Square Triangles as needed for this quilt block.)
- Ash Green: Cut THREE (3) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. You only need TEN (10) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ squares which will create FIVE (5) Quarter-Square Triangles. ONE (1) of these Quarter-Square Triangles is the center of this quilt block. The remaining FOUR (4) of these Quarter-Square Triangles are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut THREE (3) 5 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. You only need TEN (10) of these triangles for this quilt block. (These are paired with the results of the Ash Green 5 1/4″ squares which will create FIVE (5) Quarter-Square Triangles. ONE (1) of these Quarter-Square Triangles is the center of this quilt block. The remaining FOUR (4) of these Quarter-Square Triangles are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)

If you make TWELVE (12) “Flying X Quilt Blocks,” you’ll end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished, 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.
