Flock of Birds Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Red: Cut THREE (3) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (TEN (10) of these triangles are paired with the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares which will create FIVE (5) Quarter-Square Triangles. FOUR (4) of these QST’s are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block. ONE (1) of these QST’s is the center of this quilt block. The remaining TWO (2) triangles will flank the results of the White 3 1/4″ square in the center QST.)
- Red: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares, which will create one-half of SIXTEEN (16) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Red: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are flanked by the results of the White 3 1/4″ squares, which will create one-half of SIXTEEN (16) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut THREE (3) 3 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square.
