Striped Star Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Red: Cut EIGHT (8) 1 3/4″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the Red 2″ squares & the Blue 2″ squares. Then they’ll flank the results of the White 6″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Red: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Red 1 3/4″ squares & the Blue 2″ squares. Then they’ll flank the results of the White 6″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Red: Cut ONE (1) 2 7/8″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block. It’s paired with the White 1 3/4″ x 2 7/8″ rectangles. Then it’s flanked by the White 1 3/4″ x 5 1/2″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)
- Blue: Cut EIGHT (8) 2″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with the Red 1 3/4″ squares. Then they’ll flank the results of the White 6″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 1 3/4″ x 5 1/2″ rectangles. (These will flank the White 1 3/4″ x 2 7/8″ rectangles & the White 1 3/4″ x 5 1/2″ rectangles as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 4 1/8″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 1 3/4″ x 2 7/8″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Red 2 7/8″ square & will help create a “frame” around the center of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 1 3/4″ x 5 1/2″ rectangles. (These will flank the Red 2 7/8″ square & will help create a “frame” around the center of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 6″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the Red 2″ squares & the results of the Blue 2″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese as needed for this quilt block.)

- White: Cut TWO (2) 1 3/4″ x 2 7/8″ rectangles. (These are paired with the Red 2 7/8″ square. They’ll help create a “frame” around the center of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2)1 3/4″ x 5 1/4″ rectangles. (These will flank the Red 2 7/8″ square. They’ll help create a “frame” around the center of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/2″ squares. On the back side, draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Red 4 1/2″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 6″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles.
