Windmill Star Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Lt. Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. (These are paired with the results of the Lt. Blue 2 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block.)
- Lt. Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. On the back side of the squares draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Blue 2 7/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. FOUR (4) of these Half-Square Triangles will be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- Lt. Blue: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with White 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
- Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Lt. Blue 2 7/8″ squares which will create EIGHT (8) Half-Square Triangles. FOUR (4) of these Half-Square Triangles will be the FOUR (4) corners of this quilt block.)
- Blue: Cut FOUR (4) 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangles. (These are paired with the results of the Blue
2 7/8″ squares as needed for this quilt block. - White: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These are paired with Lt. Blue 4 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)

- Lt. Gray: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the White 5 1/4″ square & with the results of the Lt. Sage Green 4 7/8″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Split Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 5 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are paired with the results of the Lt. Sage Green 5 1/4″ square & with the results of the Lt. Gray 5 1/4″ square. Which will create FOUR (4) Split Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
