Centennial Star Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Red: Cut ONE (1) 6 1/2″ square. (This will be the center needed for this quilt block.)
- Red: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Blue 4 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Blue: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Red 4 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These will be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These will be flanked by the results of the Red 4 1/4″ squares & the results of the Blue 4 1/4″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese needed for this quilt block.)

If you make TWELVE (12) “Centennial Star Quilt Blocks,” you will end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished, 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.

- Blue: Cut ONE (1) 3 1/2″ square. (This is the center of the center of this quilt block. It’ll be flanked by the results of the Red 2 3/8″ squares.)
- Blue: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the results of the Red 4 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Red: Cut TWO (2) 4 1/4″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles per square. (These are paired with the result’s of the Blue 4 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- Red: Cut FOUR (4) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the White 4 1/4″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 3 1/2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ squares. (These are the FOUR (4) corner’s of the inside star as needed for this quilt block. They’re flanked by the results of the Red 2 3/8″ squares.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the the results of the Red 2 3/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the the results of the Blue 4 1/4″ squares & by the results of the Red 4 1/4″ squares. Which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese as needed for this quilt block.)
