Stockyard’s Star Quilt Block
Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):
- Red: Cut FIVE (5) 3 1/2″ squares. (ONE (1) of these is the center of this quilt block. The remaining FOUR (4) of these are the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
- Red: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the White
2 3/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.) - Dark Red: Cut SIX (6) 2 3/8″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the White 2 3/8″ squares, which will create TWELVE (12) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut SIX (6) 2 3/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Dark Red 2 3/8″ squares, which will create TWELVE (12) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut EIGHT (8) 2 3/8″ squares. Then cut the squares diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the results of the Red 7 1/4″ square, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
- White: Cut FOUR (4) 2″ x 3 1/2″ strips. (These will flank the center Red 3 1/2″ square as needed for this quilt block.)

If you make TWELVE (12) “Stockyard’s Star Quilt Blocks,” you will end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished, 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.

- Dark Green: Cut TWO (2) 3 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Green 3 7/8″ squares which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
- Dark Green: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. You only need two of these triangles to make this quilt block. (These are paired with the results of the Green 4 1/4″ square which will create ONE (1) Quarter-Square triangle. It’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
- Dark Green: Cut ONE (1) 7 1/4″ square. Then cut the square diagonally, corner-to-corner, TWO (2) times. You’ll end up with FOUR (4) triangles. (These are flanked by the results of the White 2 3//8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Flying Geese, as needed for this quilt block.)
