Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (scant 1/4″ seam allowance):

• Blue: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Yellow 4 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
• Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 4 7/8″ squares. (TWO (2) of these are paired with the Blue 4 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block. The remaining TWO (2) are paired with the Orange 4 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) more Half-Square Triangles, which will be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
• Orange: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (These are paired with the Yellow 4 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
• White: Cut ONE (1) 4 1/2″ square. (This is the center of this quilt block.)

If you make TWELVE (12) “Quartered Star Quilt Blocks,” you’ll end up with the quilt top pictured above. The size will be 36″ x 48″ finished, 36 1/2″ x 48 1/2″ unfinished.

Quartered Star Variation Quilt Block

Cutting Requirements for 12″ finished block (precise 1/4″ seam allowance):

• Blue: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Yellow 4 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block.)
• Yellow: Cut FOUR (4) 4 7/8″ squares. On the back side of each square draw a diagonal line, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. (TWO (2) of these are paired with the Blue 4 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles, as needed for this quilt block. The remaining TWO (2) are paired with the Orange 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) more Half-Square Triangles & will be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.
• Orange: Cut TWO (2) 4 7/8″ squares. (These are paired with the Yellow 4 7/8″ squares, which will create FOUR (4) Half-Square Triangles. They’ll also be the FOUR (4) corner’s of this quilt block.)
• Orange: Cut TWO (2) 2 7/8″ squares. Then cut each square diagonally, corner-to-corner, ONE (1) time. You’ll end up with TWO (2) triangles per square. (These will flank the White 3 3/8″ square which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. It’ll also help create the center of this quilt block.)
• White: Cut ONE (1) 3 3/8″ square. (This will be flanked by the results of the Orange 2 7/8″ squares which will create ONE (1) Square in a Square. It’ll also be the center of this quilt block.)
